Stevens Creek Plaza

The open-air shopping center opened in 1957 on the Santa Clara side, anchored by the Emporium and later I. Magnin; merged into Valley Fair in 1986.

Stevens Creek Plaza opened in 1957 right across the street from Valley Fair, anchored by what was then the largest Emporium department store between San Francisco and Los Angeles. I. Magnin joined it in 1964. The plaza stood in the city of Santa Clara, which is why today’s mall pays sales tax to two cities.

The Hahn Company merged the plaza and Valley Fair in 1986. I. Magnin closed in 1992, and the Emporium building became a second Macy’s in 1996.
