Macy’s rooftop carnival

A children’s carnival with seven rides, including a 40-foot Ferris wheel, that ran on the roof of the Valley Fair Macy’s from 1956 to about 1958.

The Valley Fair Macy’s was planned for a later second story, and in the meantime its roof was put to use. Between 1956 and 1957 it held a carnival with seven rides, among them a merry-go-round, a small train and a Ferris wheel 40 feet high, plus a small cafe. It closed by 1958, and the roof stayed off-limits until 1964, when the second story was built.
